Ballground
The 700+ residents of Ball Ground like to talk about their interesting heritage. The Cherokee Indians met here during an earlier century to play a game resembling lacrosse. This quiet, peaceful community is a family-oriented town boasting a neat and tidy downtown district.

Canton
The City of Canton, the county seat of Cherokee County, was established in 1832. The city was incorporated under the name Etowah in 1833 then changed to Canton December 18, 1834. The founders of Canton attempted to establish silk production but failed; however, the city is named after the city in China.
Canton hosts numerous festivals and special events, including celebrations for the Fourth of July and Christmas. Canton also hosts "A Taste of Cherokee" in May and the Riverfest during the last weekend in September

Holly Springs
Located just north of Atlanta in the heart of Cherokee County, the City of Holly Springs is a five square mile oasis of friendly neighborhoods, thriving businesses, and wonderful early-twentieth century homes and commercial buildings.
The City was incorporated in 1906, and quickly began building up around a busy train depot established by the L&N Railroad (now the Georgia Northeastern Railway). That depot, now the Holly Springs Community Center, was painstakingly restored by the City in the late 1990's and is a source of immense civic pride for our local residents. |
Waleska
Waleska was incorporated in 1889, but the area was settled years earlier, primarily by the Reinhardt, Sharp, Rhyne and Heard families. A store, cotton gin and tobacco factory were in operation at the crossroads by 1856, and a post office was added to the store soon after. For many years, the name of the post office was spelled "Walesca," but it was changed to its current form to prevent confusion with another town.

Woodstock
Woodstock is located in the southernmost part of Cherokee County, approximately 30 miles north of Atlanta and 12 miles south of Canton, the county seat. Woodstock City Hall is located at 103 Arnold Mill Road, Woodstock, GA 30188.
The southern part of Cherokee was settled first due to its flatter topography and easier access. Woodstock is over one hundred years old and one of the county's oldest towns. |
